1960s Saks Fifth Avenue Ivory Silk Satin Brocade Wedding Dress Material
This Saks Fifth Avenue wedding dress was worn by our mother in December 1963 when she married our father in San Francisco. We have had it dry cleaned but the underarms, a large stain on the right hip, and a medium size stain in the back on the right side near the bottom of the skirt are unfortunately soiled beyond repair. See photos.
We believe someone might be able to restructure the dress or reimagine it as something much more modern…
Note: It is white in certain light and more ivory cream colored in other light, very hard to photograph, as obvious from our photographs!
As described in the newspaper announcement of their wedding: It is a floor length bell-skirted gown fashioned with alternating bands of plain ivory silk satin and ivory silk satin brocade. There is a Saks Fifth Avenue label inside as well as an AFL-CIO Union Label from the Int’l Ladies Garment Workers Union.
The wedding dress will come in four pieces unless otherwise requested:
1. The wedding dress with its stains
2. The clip on matching train which appears in good condition
3. The under skirt
4. The hairpin headpiece with silk illusion veil (the latter in very vintage condition).
Size XS (waist is approx. 23 inches), but as stated above, we assume someone would want to refashion it due to the underarm stains. We are selling this AS IS…
The length of the dress is 55", most of it clean. The train is unstained, 44" high from the bow in the center back to the bottom, the two sides 41" from the waistline and 78" from each other.
