Adjustable Vintage Persian Blue Donkey Bead Necklace, 1960s 17”-26”

We believe these to be ‘donkey beads’ which are made from a non-clay based ceramic of quartz and sand called ‘faience’, originating in ancient Egypt. They are said to be charms for ‘good luck’ and a ‘long life’. They were very popular in the 1960s.
 
The 23 bead necklace itself is adjustable as the navy blue shoelace-like string ties behind the head at any length the wearer prefers from 17”-26”. 
 
These are costume jewelry pieces inherited from our grandmother, date and place acquired unknown.
 
Length 17”-26” allowing room to tie a bow knot.
