African Dogon Bronze ‘Ancestor Ring’ Pendant with Horse and Rider, Mali Size 7

SKU: RA002
$50.00Price

This is a design of the Dogon people of Mali, for whom the sculpture of the horseman may have represented one’s ancestors or a brave horseman of lore who helped defend the Dogon from those who would subdue them.

While shaped as a ring, these were often worn as pendants on bands around one’s waist.

This comes to us from the personal collection of a late family friend, an American gentleman who lived in the Côte d'Ivoire for many years in the 1970s.

It is quite heavy so it is probably more of a display piece than wearable. Collectors may want to contact a framer or display company for a custom stand on which to display this piece.
