African Dogon Bronze Small Ring/Pendant with Man with Hand to Head Size 1
This image of a man with hand to head may be related to the Dogon people’s secretive binu ceremony based on the only similar item we could find online, a crouching figure with both hands on head. The binu priest is a village connection between the living and the dead.
On the side of the ring, you may see two hands touching.
This came with others collected by a late family friend, an American gentleman who lived in the Côte d'Ivoire for many years in the 1970s.
While shaped as a ring, these were often worn as pendants on bands around one’s waist. For this piece, if worn as a ring, this would only fit a child.
Collectors may want to contact a framer or display company for a custom stand on which to display this piece.
