Alice Burr (1883-1968): Travel Linocut – African Village, (Unsigned), c. 1930s

$20.00Price

This linocut print could also be a woodblock print, but we are erring on the side of caution. We found it stored in a large envelope marked ‘Alice Burr’s Linocuts, Woodcuts, Sketches, etc. Africa, Asia’. This one is unsigned and untitled, however, it compares to others from her time in Sudan and Uganda. A similar smaller linocut with the same shape of houses has a title that is sadly illegible (see the last picture).

American artist Alice Burr, our distant grand aunt, travelled the world with her sister and cousins as single women in the 1920s and 1930s. Alice later became famous as a pictorialist, her photography commanding much higher prices than we are asking for her linocuts.

This piece is the original print, no framing or mat board. There is s small crease in the bottom right corner of the sheet and a fold in the bottom left corner but the print is in excellent condition.
