Alice Burr (1883-1968): Travel Linocut – Uganda (Unsigned), c. 1930s
This linocut print could also be a woodblock print, but we are erring on the side of caution. We found it stored in a large envelope marked ‘Alice Burr’s Linocuts, Woodcuts, Sketches, etc. Africa, Asia’.
American artist Alice Burr, our distant grand aunt, travelled the world with her sister and cousins as single women in the 1920s and 1930s. Alice later became famous as a pictoral artist, her photography commanding much higher prices than we are asking for her linocuts.
This piece is unframed and unmounted. While Alice did not sign it, she did write Uganda in the bottom left corner. There are some creases on the left corners. See photos.
