Alice Burr (1883-1968): Travel Sketch – China (Unsigned), c. 1930s
We found this sketch stored in a folder entitled ‘smaller sketches by Alice Burr’. On the back, it is tilted ‘China’. There is no signature.
American artist Alice Burr, our distant grand aunt, travelled the world with her sister and cousins as single women in the 1920s and 1930s. Alice later became famous as a pictorialist, her photography commanding much higher prices than we believe we should ask for her travel sketches.
We believe this piece is cut from a scrapbook, still in excellent condition. We liked it too much to throw it away…
Sketch: H 8 1/4” x L 6 1/2”
