Alice Burr (1883-1968): Travel Sketch – Popoyan, Columbia (Unsigned)
c. 1930s
We found this matted sketch stored in a folder entitled ‘smaller sketches by Alice Burr’. It came tucked in a paper reading ‘Market -Popoyan-Columbia’. (Is there no where the Burr sisters did not go?)
American artist Alice Burr, our distant grand aunt, travelled the world with her sister and cousins as single women in the 1920s and 1930s. Alice later became famous as a pictorialist, her photography commanding much higher prices than we believe we should ask for her travel sketches.
This piece is taped to a mat board with only a few smudges on the side of the mat, otherwise in excellent condition.
Sketch: H 4 1/2” x L 6 1/2”
Mat: H 8 1/8” x L 9 1/4”
