Antique Bronze Thai Temple Bell, Large, Possibly 19th Century

$300.00Price

This very heavy bronze bell is believed to have come from a Thai wat, or Buddhist temple, where they are used to remind monks and nuns of the time to wake, meditate, chant, eat, rest. They are periodically replaced to accommodate new ones donated by followers.

We believe our mother would have bought this in northern Thailand in the 1970s or 1980s, but similar ones online date back to the 19th Century (and are priced much, much higher). We believe it has its original clapper. It still produces a beautiful deep sound. It does have some natural imperfections and could use a good polishing if the rich patina does not suit you.

It did come to us with a brass leaf just barely attached to the clapper, which we will send with the bell. The leaf suppressed the clapper however and we do not believe it is originally part of  this bell after researching others similar online.
