Antique Indian Brass Articulated Medina Fish, early 1900s (Repair Needed)

$80.00Price

This beautiful family heirloom was purchased in India by the Burr sisters in the 1920s or 1930s. It has delighted generations of children (and some adults) since.

This brass fish has a segmented jointed body, each of the 40 section cut to imitate scales. This structure allows for movement left and right, mimicking a real fish. The large face features a wide mouth and red glass pointy eyes. The pectoral fins rotate 360 degrees. The body rotates about 200 degrees. INDIA is etched into a motif on the underside of the face.

Made in the early 1900s, these unique fish reportedly got their name when several were recovered from the shipwreck of the USS Medina which was torpedoed in 1917.

Ours has a nice patina but is in need of repair. A section of the body has popped out of the structure and needs a metal worker or someone with more skills than us to pop it back into the structure. It should not be difficult.
