Antique Indian Mughal Style Miniature Painting: Indian Myna Bird (2.625” x 1.75”
- This item is on hold pending input from a specialist -
This miniature painting is in the Indian Mughal style with one exception: it was created on a material other than paper. It sits on a plaque of unknown material, possibly wood. It also appears to be signed in very small lettering in the bottom right which reads LALIT.
The image board or plaque is glued to a hard piece of textured art board which in turn is glued onto a paper cover with some pattern in the weave, which folds over the artwork, a thin sheet of transparency protecting the image.
According to our online research, it is painted in intricate detail with natural stone colors and super fine brushstrokes. The background is in dull colors to make the bird stand out. The border of the painted frame may be gold leaf.
We believe this might have been purchased in India by our grandmother in the 1930s. The plaque is like nothing we could find online, so it may have been a souvenir rather than an original miniature Mughal painting.
The plaque itself is in pristine condition. The backing is spotted however and the paper cover quite dirty.
