Antique KPM Berlin Porcelain Evaporating Dishes, 1840s (Set of 4)
In used condition, these little bowls were designed as laboratory equipment for evaporation. They have a little spout for convenient pouring. (Today, of course, you can use them for jewelry, keys, trinkets, as a soap dish, etc.)
On the side is the KPM Berlin logo that was only used from 1847-1849 according to the highly regarded porcelain manufacturer’s current page. KPM stands for Konigliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, aka the Royal Porcelain Factory Berlin founded in 1763 by King Frederick II of Prussia. It was around the mid 1800s when they noticed many imitations popping up, the Prussian eagle then used to remind people of the royal authority behind the company. Shortly after, the royal blue scepter was added to all products.
We believe these came through our family from a doctor who would have been our great great grandfather…
All four bowls have signs of use, a few with cracks in the rim and stains inside the bowls. See photos. All have the KPM Berlin logo. Size varies slightly.
