Antique Leather Sewing Case (Contents Untouched)

$30.00Price

This black leather belonged to the Burr sisters, as evidenced by a note within. We did not want to disturb the contents. We see needles, pin cushions, a button, thimbles, and red, white and black threads. We also snuck a look at the small crystal capped capsule of HER MAJESTY’S INCOMPARABLE Smelling Salts from London within (we do not suggest you try them).

We suspect this sewing case travelled the world with the Burr sisters, who did world tours in the 1920s and 1930s as single women. It is stamped Senno Marstaller München in the upper right corner, which we believe was a leather goods shop in Munich. The inner lid is covered in blue silk. The interior has compartments which are not visible in photos.

Should no one be interested in this, we will donate it along with other Burr family mementos to the San Francisco Historical Society as they were a prominent family in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
