Antique Silver Tone Hexagonal Pill Box Pendant & Necklace, 1910s, 30”

SKU: N059
$15.00Price

We believe this may be pewter as it has no silver markings and the silver polish was not as effective as Brasso. We needed to polish the piece to check for maker’s marks or silver stamps, neither of which were found.

The shape of the locket and the hinged lid are identical to one found on Live Auctioneers dated 1914 but that one was stamped authentic silver, much shallower, and had markings of the UK Chester Assay Office with the year 1914. Ours is not stamped and much deeper.

The exterior design makes us confident in concluding it was made in the UK. We believe our grandmother  inherited this piece from her father who often travelled to the UK on business (and was later found to have had a second family there!)

The chain is tightly wound and affixed to the pendant, ie. original. It has no stamp or maker’s mark either. It is quite heavy so we believe it is a metal other than silver.

This piece does show signs of use - scratches, a dimple or two on the exterior, and some discoloration inside. See photos.
