Antique Tibetan Buddhist Amulet Shakyamuni and Nine Palaces Pendant

SKU: BP029
$10.00Price

Designed to be worn as a reminder of Buddhist teachings  and spiritual protection, this pendant features a depiction of the Shakyamuni Buddha (Enlightened) on one side, and the ‘Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams, also known as the Jiugong Bagua Pai, on the other side. We believe it is bronze.

The innermost circle contains nine numbers with a specific arrangement related to cosmology. The second circle contains the eight trigrams, or bagua, symbolizing elemental forces such as heaven, earth, fire, water, and wind. The next ring features the animals of the Chinese zodiac. On the final ring on our pendant are the outer guardians, fierce deities that protect against evil, misfortune and negative energies.

This was most likely acquired by the Burr sisters in India in the 1920s or 1930s, when they purchased several items that had been brought from Tibet to Darjeeling.
