Antique Wood Carving Architectural Panel: Origin Unknown, 27.25” Long

$250.00Price

This relief sculpted wood carving may have been created to fit a window or door. We have been unable to find anything with the same two tiered structure or the same pattern online, even after chasing suggestions it came from Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand, Borneo, Bali, Java, and even Mexico.  We are consulting a specialist.

We believe it is made of a single piece of teakwood and was purchased by the Burr sisters on one of their world tours in the 1920s or 1930s. As shown in photos, they turned it into wall décor, the wall mounts still attached.

It is in very good condition for such a vintage piece, with a few spots of white paint near the left side as shown in photos. The back side seems to be composed of at least three planks of wood, rather roughly put together.
