Eleanor Burke (1938-2022): Mid Century San Francisco House and Cable Car, 1966
Signed by the artist in the lower left corner of the house in the image, this pen and ink drawing was part of a series of drawings Eleanor Burke did early in her career featuring Victorian houses in San Francisco. These pieces found a market via art galleries and department stores.
A dear friend of our mother Nancy Chandler, Eleanor Burke was also known for her sketchbooks created later in life of the streets of San Francisco and Saigon in Vietnam. Both women had a similar love of architecture, colors, and sketching everywhere they went. They had a similar style. And it seems both women also enjoyed recreating pieces, this one dated May 1966, but others found online dated February 1966!
The artwork is in excellent condition, but for the fact it is taped with masking tape to the back of the olive mat. It should be easy to remove and replace the mat or reframe as preferred however.
Artwork H 8 3/4” x L 13”
Mat H 12” x L 16”
