Guatemalan Highland Silver Chachal Necklace 78”
Our research indicates this design is particular to the indigenous in the highlands of Guatemala, original ones rare to find these days. The chachal, or wedding necklace, is extra long, allowing it to be draped over the bride and groom during the wedding vows.
This rare piece of history features hollow silver balls with diamond shape cut outs linked to delicate coiled chains within a loop of their own linked to plain soldered silver balls before the pattern repeats. The chain is continuous, no clasp included.
The necklace can be worn as one long strand, double, triple, or -with use of an extender – as a four strand choker.
This came from our grandmother’s vintage jewelry collection. It is unmarked but we suspect she bought it during her world tour in 1934-1935.
