Guo Xi: Early Spring (Museum Reproduction)

$50.00Price

This is a famous landscape painting created during the Northern Song Dynasty, circa 1072. It is rich in symbolic meaning. The mountain peaks represent the emperor and government, the pines important members of society, and the total ambience one of harmonious society under a benevolent government. The artist Guo Xi was a well known landscape painter at the time and the original was reportedly painted on a scroll to be hung.

We believe our grandparents probably picked this up from a museum exhibit in San Francisco or our grandmother bought it in the 1930s when she visited China…

It is lightly glued to a cardboard backing with an extra large cream textured mat in front. The print seems to be in very good condition for its age although there is some creasing in the lower right where it seems the artwork got trapped on the edge of the mat.

Mat: H 30” x L 20”

Reproduction Artwork: H 24 1/4” x L 16 5/8”
