Japanese Mala Meditation Prayer Beads Juzu, Early 1900s / 108 Beads 12”
This two tasseled piece nearly matches one in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum described as wood and crystal Japanese Prayer Beads from the Early 19th Century. We do not believe the clear beads in this piece are crystal, however. They are either glass or plastic. The wood may be sandalwood but we cannot confirm such.
This was found in our grandmother’s collection. Where she bought them or when is unknown. It is possible she bought them in Japan in the 1930s or inherited them from the Burr sisters. It is in excellent condition but for the tassels being a bit wild.
Length 12” plus 5” tassels on either end.
Approx 7 oz
