Large Antique Meissen Pit-Fired Porcelain Evaporation Dishes (Set of 2)
One of these bowls has the clear logo of Meissen, Europe’s first paste porcelain factory, established in 1710 in Germany. The logo features crossed swords and was adopted in 1720.
The other bowl has the logo if one looks very carefully. It also appears to have the signature of a maker on the edge of the unglazed base.
We believe these date back to the mid 1800s as we have smaller ones by a different company that we could date to 1847-1849. Presumably, they were used by the same great great grandfather in Germany.
Both of these exhibit smoke marks and mineral deposit stains on the unglazed bases, but we think that makes them more interesting. The bowls have stains and scars from use over a century ago.
We found nothing similar online but suspect there may be someone out there intrigued by these bowls and their history.
