Lucy Allyne (1874-1963): Sobrano Adobe, Monterey, 1901
Lucy and her sister Edith were the original ‘eccentric spinsters’ in our mother’s family. Daughters of John Allyne, who made his fortune in owning oil lands and investing in real estate in San Francisco and New York City, they travelled the world together. Lucy was the artistic one, a charter member of the San Francisco Women’s Artists group. Soberanes Adobe, once a family estate, is now a historical landmark. It has been part of the Monterey State Historic Park since 1953.
The mat was has crude edges on the right side, a darker square to the lower right of the artwork, and is discolored on the back as shown in photos. Otherwise, the artwork is in good condition.
