Lucy Allyne (1874-1963): Untitled (Soberanes Adobe II), 1901

$10.00Price

Lucy and her sister Edith were the original ‘eccentric spinsters’ in our mother’s family. Daughters of John Allyne, who made his fortune in owning oil lands and investing in real estate in San Francisco and New York City, they travelled the world together. Lucy was the artistic one, a charter member of the San Francisco Women’s Artists group. This watercolor piece is not titled but the date marked on the back of the artwork – July 6, 1901 - suggests it depicts Soberanes Adobe, so we have nicknamed it Soberanes Adobe II. We found another piece of hers dated July 3, 1901, titled such. Soberanes Adobe, once a family estate, is now a historical landmark. It has been part of the Monterey State Historic Park since 1953.

Lucy signed the back of the mat, which has some damage on its edges. The artwork is loosely attached at the top with some mounting glue, very easy to remove. There is a crease in the lower right of the artwork, but we believe that is a paper issue, not damage.
