Mexican Olinala Hand Painted Lacquered Jewelry/Trinket Box (Distressed)
This vintage or antique folk art rounded lid box is believed to have been created by the artisans of Olinala in Guerrero, Mexico. The wood chest is lacquered and hand painted with images of swans and a blue fruit or blossom on the front, white ones on the side. On the top is a floral wreath with a name or other wording in faded gold that we could not make out. There is a keyhole but no key has yet to be found that fits it.
The box is old and the enamel has cracked and peeled, revealing the wood underneath, as visible in photos. The double hinged lid is a little wobbly.
We believe our grandparents would have purchased this on a trip to Mexico in the 1950s to 1970s. How old it was at the time is unknown.
