Miniature Kendi Decorative Piece, 2" Tall

$5.00Price

This small kendi, or pouring vessel, is in excellent condition, but for the fact that the spout does not appear to be open.

We have no idea where this glazed stoneware piece was bought or by whom. It is a light olive green with dark markings.

Kendi were originally used as pouring vessels for Hindu ceremonies, with larger pieces evolving into drinking vessels whereby one’s mouth never had to touch the vessel, especially when they had ‘mamiform’ spouts (shaped like a breast as is ours). They were made all over Southeast Asia and East Asia for use mainly in Malaysia and Indonesia.
