The image on this poster comes from Marc Chagall’s illustrations of the Four Tales from the Arabian Nights: Plate No. 6 – Julnar the Sea-born and her Son, King Badr Basim of Persia, No. 3 from 1948, according to the Cleveland Museum of Modern Art.
European modernist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was a Russian-French Jewish artist who escaped WWII by moving to New York City for 7 years. He created works in a range of mediums, working on everything from cathedral stained glass windows, stage sets and large paintings to book illustrations, tapestries and fine art. According to Wikipedia, even Picasso praised his understanding of color.
