Navajo Native American Whirling Logs Silver Cuff Bracelet 7”
This flexible Native American silver five-band stamped cuff bracelet features a ‘whirling logs’ symbol in the center piece, arrows on either side, with what we will call sunrises above and below. There are two additional large thunderbirds on either side alongside a traditional plant motif or pattern.
The ‘whirling logs’ symbol in Native American cultures is a symbol of healing, protection and well-being, and good luck. It also represents the sun, the four directions, and the four seasons, aka “that which revolves” in Navajo. Note this symbol predates WWII and has no affiliation with the swastika. Our research indicates that use of this symbol disappeared after WWII which would date this piece to the 1920s or 1930s.
This bracelet is not marked but tested positive for silver. It came from our grandmother’s vintage jewelry collection. We do not know where or when she acquired it.
Note: We have another very similar bracelet listed, the only difference being a thunderbird in the center piece. See B017.
