Old Blackened Earthenware Ceramic Candleholder / Planter, 5” Tall
The remnants of wax on this piece confirmed that our grandmother used this unusual ceramic piece as a candleholder. We do believe it could also be used as a planter if turned the other way up.
It has a hollow center which tapers as it goes into the bowl, allowing for different sized candles to fit snugly. The roughly fired earthenware bowl is blackened on two sides with some orange clay showing through. The pedestal base is balanced and made of thicker clay. We would say it has seen some things in its time, but it may have come looking very similar to what it looks like now…
Date and place our grandmother acquired it will remain unknown.
