Qing Dynasty Famille Rose Tea Cup (Small)
Estimated to be from the late 1800s or early 1900s, due to the CHINA stamp on the base, this was probably picked up by the Burr sisters on one of their visits to the country.
Famille Rose refers to the colors introduced by Jesuits to the Chinese and incorporated into porcelain works of art. This piece features orange over red glazed porcelain with an aubergine green overglaze. In the center of the mirror, or bowl, is a plum with leaves (a symbol of perseverance and resilience
Chinese Teacup). On the exterior are bamboo scrolls in amongst branches on two of the four images, one with a sword in branches, and the third an item we cannot identify.
This piece is NOT in good condition. There is a long crack down one side as shown in photos and notches on the rim. The pockmarks in the base are natural results of the glazing process.
