Rare Akha Hill Tribe Coiled Unmarked Silver Cuff, Approx 56g 6”+
Historical records show Akha women wearing these cuffs back in the early 1900s, many now sold to antique dealers so they are described online as rare. We found several online however, with asking prices of $ 350 and up per piece.
This was part of either our grandmother’s or mother’s vintage jewelry collection, probably purchased in the early 1970s in northern Thailand.
We are very confident it is made of high grade Akha silver. It did test positive for silver using a home acid test. The hand crafted coils of this bracelet lead to solid silver ends. The C shape of the bracelet and the coils allow some flex in the shape to fit onto one's arm.
As shown in photos, there are some natural imperfections, cuts where the coils meet the end pieces. The bracelet does have a patina appropriate with its age. We have not tried to polish it.
Note: Several online vendors claim this is Navajo jewelry but we refer you to Michael Beckman’s listing which describes these being photographed and recorded in historical records of the Akha people.
