Rare Weston Photronic Exposure Meter Model 617, Version 1, USA, c 1932
Made of Bakelite. Marked Pat. Pend., with original black leather case and 22” long leather strap. (Untested.)
We believe this belonged to Alice Burr, who became one of the first well-regarded American photographers in the early 1900s.
This was the very first light meter made by Weson specifically for determining camera exposure. It is relatively rare since the twin cell model was only made for two years before being replaced by the much more compact single cell version 2. We do not have the time or resources to get this tested or valued. We were unable to find any others online for sale. The only ones mentioned online were in histories by Weston Meters.
The wheel on the front moves smoothly. The arrow in the center window is not frozen in place. The two ‘windows’ on the back seem clear. The strap is in good vintage condition. The case is showing some age, but not significant damage or wear and tear. See photos.
