Retro Vintage Red Eastman Kodak Timer for Darkrooms Model 8239 (Not Working)

$5.00Price

This was working when we found it but then stopped working when we tried to time ourselves. It may need more winding, but we found instructions online that warned not to turn the butterfly knob too tight (which we may have done). In other words, if you want a working timer, you will need to repair this. Otherwise, it could make a great ‘shelf queen’ for display purposes only.

The cranberry red Kodak Timer 8239, sold in the 1940s and 1950s, was designed to be a 60 minute dark room timer, with no bell or chime, requiring the user to remain alert. Some photographers say the audible ticking was a great way to make sure agitation was done to the right rhythm. A vintage mechanical wind-up timer, the small hand is for minutes, the long hand for seconds. It features a heavy-duty, industrial-style red metal casing with head that can be tilted on its base for easy viewing.

The knobs on the back all still work, as does the start/stop level on the front. The dial can still be tilted up or down as shown in photos.

It does have tarnish and our mother wrote her name on the top, where there is also some tape or other residue.

Approx. H 4 1/2” x L 4 3/4” x D 2 1/2”
