Rustic Thick Vintage or Antique Wood Frame (16 x 12.875)
This old family cabin wood frame is nice looking from the front, although the mirror within has spots within it and may need to be replaced with another mirror or picture. We kept it as we liked the antiquey look. The wood is thick and slopes into the frame cavity, jutting out about 1/4” beyond the rest of the frame, giving the perception, if hung that it is floating off the wall.
The back is not so nice to look at with U shaped nails holding the mirror in place. One of the U shaped nails (also called staples, U-nails, or garden staples – the things you learn) was once pulled out and there is some wood chipping in the area.
To hang on the wall, the frame has an old school twisted picture wire wrapped around two more U-nails, setting it up for hanging in the vertical position. The wire should be taped or replaced if you don’t want it scratching your wall. You could also take it out and install your own in a different direction. (We did not use the picture wire ourselves, preferring to rest this piece atop a dresser against the wall.)
We do not know how old this frame is nor how it came into our family home. We are guessing it is an antique or vintage American piece.
