‘San Francisco Press Club Cat’ Limited Ed Print, Beniamino Bufano, 1967

$50.00Price

This vibrant piece was won by our grandmother Winona Sands at an art benefit, presented to her in person by Bufano, according to a notation on the back by her. In another person’s handwriting is the text ‘One of a very limited number of prints. The original should bring $ 3,000.00 – said Bufano on the T.V. Auction for KQUED. 6-7-67’

Beniamino Benevenuto Bufano (1898–1970) was an American/Italian artist who is most well known for his sculptures of all sizes.

The print is on a piece of hard cardboard, which may have been as originally received. The corners are bumped and peeling in places. There is a strange indentation in the middle of the cat’s lower legs and some signs of what one might call ‘careless storage’, eg. a scratch or two when held up to the light in a certain way. But it is a striking piece all the same.
