Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956) was a cartoonist, caricaturist, and fine artist. Although American, he is closely associated with his time in Germany from his late teens where he became an artist and instructor of German Impressionism and Bauhaus, later early cubism and futurism. He left for New York when the Nazis began suppressing art. He was also a musician and photographer.
