Vintage African Kenya Handcrafted Serving Tray
We believe our mother picked this piece up in 1968 when visiting Kenya. This large three compartment tray is believed to be made of mango wood. The tray is beautifully carved out. The sides have a geometric diamond pattern with criss cross lines through each, a blank ink or charcoal used to accentuate the pattern. Beneath this band is a partly darkly stained base. Two dark stained handles are on the far ends of the tray, possibly cut from the same single piece of wood.
There is a maker’s mark or a price on the back in pencil which is largely illegible.
It is in remarkably good condition for its age. See photos for the two tiny scratches we found atop one handle. We do not believe this piece was ever used.
