Vintage Bakelite Butterscotch Amber Marbled Bead Necklace 18"

We suspected this was not tiger’s eye quartz as suggested by Google Image Search because the bead design is too similar bead to bead and the beads too light to be stone. The screw in clasp also appeared to be plastic. After some more research, we did the Bakelite hot water test, and it tested positive for a faint chemical smell. We also learned that Bakelite can be brittle and prone to cracking under pressure. As shown in photos, the clasp does have a chip missing that would suggest this to be the case.
 
This was in our grandmother’s vintage jewelry collection. We do not know when or where she acquired it. It is in good condition but for the chip in the clasp as mentioned above.
