Vintage Bone Bead & Silver Filigree Clasp Necklace & Bracelet Set
Warning: If considering buying this set to wear, please double check the bracelet size as it is for the small wristed only!
The necklace and bracelet both hold elliptical beads of ascending size as they taper away from the beautiful filigree silver box, aka tongue-and-groove, clasps. The clasp on the bracelet, which features a fluer-de-lis in the center, reads STERLING S on the back side. The clasp on the necklace has a similar but different motif on both the back and front.
A gemologist has since confirmed that the beads are likely bone, yes, but these beads do not show any structural signs of being elephant bone (ivory) or celluloid (a synthetic plastic often used in the late 1880s and early 1900s to imitate ivory).
These were found in our grandmother’s jewelry collection. There are no markings beyond the silver stamp to indicate where or when they were bought. They are a bit discolored, which is natural with age, and a few of the beads have what appear to be cracks but most likely are natural defects.
Necklace length 15”, approx. weight 1.34 oz (38g).
