Vintage Buddhist Photography: Yakushi Nyorai, Horyu-Ji Temple

$5.00Price

This photograph depicts an exquisite wall painting fresco of Yakushi Nyorai, Buddha of healing and medicine, enshrined in the Main Hall (Kondo) of the Horyu-Ji Temple in Nara, Japan, one of the earliest Buddhist temples in the country. The Kondo is one of the world’s oldest surviving large wooden structures. The fresco is believed to date back to the 7th century.

Written lightly in pencil on the back of the photograph in what we trust is one of our great grand aunt’s handwriting is ‘detail of the frescos of temple at Horiuji in kondo or hall in Nara, japan’. They visited Japan in the 1920s and 1930s.

IT is in very good vintage condition with very little wearing on the edges and one tiny tear on the left edge.
