Vintage Burmel Original Hand Rolled All Linen Handkerchiefs (Set of 4)
These brown, saffron, dark blue-green, and lime green handkerchiefs were never used. Three have the original sticker still on them which reads: A Burmel Original Hand Rolled in the Philippines All Linen. All need ironing, as obvious in the photos… they’ve been in storage for decades…
For history fans: Burmel was a company that produced and marketed popular handkerchiefs, ranging from plain to boldly decorated, from the 1930s, and later scarves when the company had to innovate as a result of the invention of tissues. They were known for their engaging marketing campaigns, including Vogue’s 1940s-1950s series ‘Handkerchief of the Month’ and product launches celebrating specific colors. They also created innovative products such as greeting cards with floral handkerchiefs attached. They closed in the 1980s.
These plain handkerchiefs have sold on eBay recently for as much as $ 18 a piece. We’re happy to just find them a home.
Each handkerchief is 13 1/8” x 13 1/8”
