Vintage Butter Pat Bowls (Set of 4)

$5.00Price

These tiny dishes were common from the 1850s to 1920s for formal dining at home or at restaurants, ensuring each guest had their own fresh, untouched serving of butter. A special wooden paddle, also called a butter pat, was used to shape the individual portions.

Today people may use them to hold dipping sauces, herbs, salt and pepper, jam, olives, or other small bites. They can also be used as resting spots for utensils during meals or as teabag saucers. Some also use them to hold jewelry, keys, paper clips.

We believe these are porcelain. They could also be ironstone. They are all clean on top, but may have some signs of age. The bases have some minor scratches and stains. See photos.
