Vintage Chaoui Unmarked Metal Openwork Pin Clasp Floral Bracelet 7"

SKU: B022
$50.00Price

We believe this bracelet is Berber Algerian in origin, the pin and three gate clasp and the openwork floral patterns most similar to those found online created by the Chauoi people, a Berber population in the Algerian/Tunisian Aures mountain area.

This was found in our grandmother’s vintage jewelry collection. We know she travelled the world in 1934-1935, but otherwise have no idea when or where she might have acquired this piece unless inherited from her aunts the Burr sisters who travelled widely in the 1920s and 1930s.

The piece has a floral pattern in the open work, with three flat silver tone discs jutting out at equidistant points around the bracelet. These are framed by a patterned border that extends to the sides of the clasp. We doubt the pin in the clasp is original as it is a bit bent and struggles to hold the sides in place – perhaps it is a paper clip refashioned to serve as a pin. To our surprise, it tested inconclusive for silver in a home acid test.

As visible in photos, we have not polished this piece. We know many buyers prefer to do polishing themselves.

Online similar ones cost from $ 300 up.
