Vintage Dixie 4 String Banjo Ukulele (Banjolele) 1950s (Restringing Needed)

$100.00Price

These were particularly popular in the 1950s, according to our online research. We believe our mother Nancy Chandler, then Nancy Sands, would have bought this in the late 1950s or early 1960s, when she was leading student tours to Austria and Germany.

The collectible instrument has a small banjo-type body and a fretted ukulele neck. It is made of metal, possibly aluminum. The logo DIXIE is clearly visible on the front of the headstock. On the back, it is engraved PATENT PENDING MADE IN U.S.A.

As shown in photos, it needs restringing (one string has popped), cleaning, polishing, tuning, etc. There are remnants of tape on the back of the headstock where it reads PATENT PENDING and our mother’s maiden name SANDS is written in pencil inside the hide drum head.

Approx. H 21” x L 8” x D 2 1/4”

Diameter of skin/head 6 3/4”
