Vintage Dymo Mark VI Model M-6 Embossing Label Maker, 1966-1970s
Built to last, this vintage, handheld embossing label maker still works and comes with all accessories including the illustrated instruction manual, four embossing tape rolls (black and red partially used, two faux wood rolls full) and a secondary interchangeable font wheel (with slightly smaller, less bold letters and numbers than the one in the machine), as well as the fitted storage case.
The model M-6 was released in 1966 and believed to have been in production until 1978 when the acquisition of Dymo by Esselte led to the cancellation of many of the classic, earlier models in favor of new designs. Today, it is a collectible among lovers of vintage office equipment.
To create labels, one spins the character wheel to the letter or number desired, then squeezes the handle to force the crunching of the tape between the letter and the body of the machine, creating raised, three dimensional letters on the plastic tape.
The machine is designed to work with different-sized tapes, typically both 1/4" and 3/8". The rolls included with this kit are all 3/8, but you can order more colors and different sizes online by searching for ‘Dymo embossing labels’.
All parts and the label maker seem to be in near original condition. The storage case is missing the latch that used to keep in locked and the hinge is cracked. Its label has faded and there is the remnant of some sticker glue in the center of the label. Otherwise, it is in good vintage condition.
