Vintage Egyptian Bedouin Siwa Braided Rope Cuff Bracelets (Set of 2) 7.5"
Note: These cuffs are not flexible so they would only be appropriate for someone with skinny wrists!
This specific silver tone cuff design comes from the Siwa Oasis area of Egypt, home to Bedouin and Berber communities with a rich history of silversmithing. They depict a braided rope across the front of the pieces, folded over end pieces with pointed sections facing back up the band.
We have two of these. Both have three hallmarks on the end piece and four on the outside of the band. We have been unable to identify them but were told that animal marks were used before numbers to identify the grade of silver. Professional silver testing suggested the metal is a low grade silver alloy (“less than sterling”).
They are in good vintage condition although one could use a polishing inside. We found them in our grandmother’s jewelry collection. We do not know when or where she bought them but she did travel the world in 1934-1935 with her aunts the Burr sisters loved to shop…
We did find several of these online, ranging in price for individual pieces from $ 178-500. Reminder, we are selling two as a set.
