Vintage Elbow-Length Black Suede Helene Dale Paris Gloves, Size 6.5
Reaching to mid-forearm, these “elbow-length” gloves were considered semi-formal. They have been used as noted below.
Inside they are both stamped 7 (as was the bag), which we believe was a size, with the Helene Dale name and address in Paris in only one of the two. However, we measured our US size 7 hand which only just fits inside, so we have labeled these as size 6.5 or XS, which would be our grandmother’s hand size. There is also a 6/3 stamped inside one, which may have been the model number.
To measure your glove size, use a tape measure to find the circumference of your dominant hand at its widest point, excluding your thumb. The resulting measurement in inches is typically your glove size. For half-inch measurements, round up to the nearest whole or half size.
The Helene Dale French brand was active from approximately the 1920s to 1960s. The company was known for producing high-quality women's leather and suede gloves.
This come in a bag from The Barra Glove Store, which had branches in Naples, Rome, Florence and San Francisco, the latter referenced as operating in the Union Square area in the 1970s and 1980s with unclear founding and closing dates.
There is a stain on one of the gloves as shown in photos. The suede could also use a brushing. The fingers might benefit from some stuffing as well. They fit fine on the hand but laid flat, they are not straight due to decades poorly packed in storage.
Approx. L 14 “
