Vintage Germany Travel Poster: Pfalsgrafenstein on the Rhine, 1960 (37.5” x 25.5
This travel poster depicts a steam powered paddle wheel boat passing in front of the Pfalsgrafenstein Castle on the Rhine River in Germany, Known today as the Pfalzgrafenstein, or the Pfalz, the castle was built in the 1320s by King Ludwig IV of Bavaria to collect tolls from passing river traffic. The artist is unknown although one seller on Worthpoint claimed it was painted by a San Francisco travel artist Louis Macouillard. We were unable to find any other mention of such, or any similar work under his name online.
The poster dates to the 1950s or 1960s and was probably bought by our mother in the late 1950s or early 1960s when she was working in Germany and Austria as a guide for high school student tours from the USA. (It has clearly been hung up on a wall, but we do not remember it from our childhood.)
There are pin prinks on all corners, a staple like tear near the left corner, and a small spot to the right of the title, as shown in photos. Otherwise it is in decent vintage condition.
H 37 1/2” x L 25 1/2”
