Vintage Hand Carved Italian Alabaster Marble Caramel Bird Figurine

We believe this is a mid century carving in fine-grained translucent gypsum alabaster, with ITALY carved on the bottom of one foot. Our research suggests it is a midcentury piece. These were used as decorative items, paper weights, and sometimes sold in sets for bird baths.
 
We are not sure who in our family acquired this, or when or where. It is in vintage condition, with several small white spots signs of age. The larger darker spots with white circles around them may be natural details in the material used or a result of the production process. We could find nothing online describing them as signs of age.
