Vintage Hand Crafted African Kenya Tribal Folk Art Wooden Bowl, 4.5” Wide
We believe our mother picked this lightweight piece up in 1968 when visiting Kenya. These bowls are typically handcrafted from indigenous hardwood. In this case, we believe mango wood was used and perhaps a stain applied to give it a little glow.
The bowl is beautifully carved out. The sides have a geometric triangular pattern filled with polka dots, a blank ink or charcoal used to accentuate the pattern. Beneath this band is a darkly stained band of wood leading to the base.
It is in remarkably good condition for its age, with only the remnants of tape on the bottom to report. We do not believe this piece was ever used.
