Vintage HB Hofbrauhaus Munchen Beer Stein/Mug, 1L

This heavy grey beer mug bears the logo of HB Hofbrauhaus Munchen, a Bavarian brewery. We guess our mother picked this up in the early 1960s when she spent time in Austria and Germany as a young woman. 
 
It is made of heavy stoneware, glazed grey, with dark blue in the logo of the beer which is etched into the piece. Stamped next to the handle is 1L. There are some kiln scars on one side and the handle, as well as a sharp outcrop of clay just inside the bowl where the handle attaches. There is a hole atop the handle which was put there for a reason we do not know.
 
It is in excellent condition and appears never used.
